Astrological aspects

Planets do not sit in isolation. They form geometric relationships across the zodiac wheel, and those relationships are called aspects. A square between Mars and Saturn feels different from a trine between the same two planets because the angle changes how their themes combine. Aspects are how astrologers describe conversation inside a chart: cooperation, friction, blending, or standoff.

Each major aspect has a target angle. Conjunctions cluster near 0°, sextiles near 60°, squares near 90°, trines near 120°, oppositions near 180°. Real charts rarely hit those numbers exactly. Practitioners allow an orb, a few degrees of wiggle room, before they treat an aspect as active. Wider orbs are common for the Sun and Moon; tighter orbs are often used for fast-moving points. In a natal chart, aspects describe lifelong patterns: how your Mercury talks to your Venus, whether your Moon eases or argues with your Saturn. Transits add moving planets on top of that map. A transit square to natal Mercury might show up as a week of editing and miscommunication even if your natal Mercury is usually calm. Reading transits alongside aspects helps daily horoscopes make more sense, because horoscope writers are often describing sign-level transits you can compare to your own chart later.
