Zodiac elements
Every sign belongs to an element. Together, Fire, Earth, Air, and Water describe temperament and the kind of fuel a chart runs on.
The twelve zodiac signs group into four elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. Element is not a personality box. It describes the kind of energy a sign prefers to move through: heat and action, matter and craft, ideas and exchange, or feeling and memory. When you read a Sun sign profile on zodiac signs, much of the tone comes from its element, even before you look at house placement or aspects.
Charts mix elements. Someone with a Water Sun and a pile of Air placements may think in paragraphs but decide with emotion. An Earth-heavy chart can look cautious until you notice Fire rising or a cardinal Mars pushing for a quick start. Element balance is one of the first things readers notice when they open a wheel. Element also shows up in relationship talk. Fire and Air often spark quickly because both lean toward motion and outward focus; Earth and Water tend toward steadiness and depth. Those pairings are tendencies, not rules, which is why compatibility writing on compatibility always comes back to the full chart. Modality (cardinal, fixed, mutable) adds another layer: two Fire signs can still differ sharply if one is cardinal Aries and the other is fixed Leo.
